The 2025 Chevrolet Silverado HD is more than a tow rig or a heavy hauler—it can be used for fun without having to load it up. For 2025, Chevrolet added the off-road-ready Trail Boss package to the Silverado 2500HD. Based on one of the strongest ¾-ton pickup trucks in the business, it is designed for maximum adventure. Trail Boss is available on LT and LTZ trims.

This package adds off-road-ready performance features like Z71 shocks and suspension, skid plates, and on-road/off-road tires. Specific features for the Trail Boss package include: Z71 shocks and suspension package, blacked-out grille, front and rear bumpers, unique 20-inch black wheels with BFGoodrich all-terrain tires, Trail Boss bed decals, red recovery hooks, and available power-retractable running boards (specific for the LTZ trim).

You can choose between the standard 6.6-liter V8 engine or the optional 6.6-liter Duramax diesel. The latter boasts 470 horsepower and 975 pound-feet of torque. Both engines are combined with the standard Allison 10-speed automatic transmission.

Recently, the website Gear Junkie took a 2025 Silverado 2500HD Trail Boss for a mix of in-town and desert driving. One of its points was that its off-road prowess was as good as the more capable ZR2 model. The editors liked that the Trail Boss’ Rancho suspension system was, in their opinions, equal to the Multimatic DSSV system on the ZR2.

This is one area where the Trail Boss package shines. It is not about how far afield you can go in a heavy-duty pickup truck. It is about how you can balance adventure with everyday use. In Minnesota, there are a few places where you can take a heavy-duty pickup off the highway for some off-road fun. However, if your work takes you onto miles of gravel roads, farm tracks, and winter conditions, you will appreciate how the Trail Boss package handles them with ease.

When it comes to play, the 2025 Silverado 2500HD Trail Boss brings it! Choose the Duramax turbodiesel, and you have more low-end grunt to use for the toughest terrain. Even if it is a muddy field resulting from a heavy overnight rainstorm or a huge snowdrift, the 2025 Silverado 2500HD Trail Boss and the Duramax turbodiesel will handle it.

These are the many reasons why the Trail Boss package—a popular choice for the Silverado 1500 Custom and LT trim levels—is now available on the Silverado 2500HD LT and LTZ.
