What the Multi-Flex Tailgate Does For You
2024 will be the third year the Silverado 1500 has had the available Multi-Flex tailgate. At first glance, it looks like a tailgate with a smaller tailgate in its upper section. It will look like that on second glance as well, but it is only when you start working with it that you begin to understand what it can do, and only after you have one that you realize all of its possibilities. Chevrolet of Spring Valley is here to give you a quick rundown of this remarkably versatile tailgate.

Enhanced Conventional Use
Just lower the primary tailgate, and you can tell it is unique. A built-in torsional spring and damper create a smooth movement. Its soft landing prevents the usual downward slam, which can cause wear and rattles over time. LTZ models and above have a power tailgate that can open from the key fob, a switch inside the truck, or a button on the gate. You can also lift the gate a few inches when open, and the power assist will take over.

Primary Gate Load Stop
When the load is longer than the bed, a common practice is to lower the tailgate to become an extension of the bed floor. Until now, that has meant that everything in the bed had to be well strapped into place so as not to slide out the open rear. The Multi-flex tailgate, however, has the Load Stop, which is a panel that flips up at the end to become an auxiliary tailgate that keeps things in place.

Inner Gate Work Surface
When the truck is stationary, lowering the inner gate provides a convenient work surface at a workbench-level height. When loading long items, such as long pipes or beams that may slide to the side, lowering the inner gate can create a cradle to keep items from sliding sideways and possibly out of the bed. If the items fall within the length of the bed plus the inner gate, the Load Stop can be deployed to help keep longer items in place.

Easier Load Access and Full-width Step
When loading the bed, the lowered primary gate can hinder you while placing or adjusting the load. Opening the inner gate when the primary gate is down allows you to stand 7-9 inches closer to the bed to ease load access. For even greater access, you can open the Load Stop panel, which now becomes a four-foot-wide step. The Load Stop is rated to hold 375 pounds, and when combined with the steps built into the bumper corners, you have easy access to everything near the rear of the cargo bed. Additionally, there is a hand-grab pole on the left side of the bed that extends to a perfect angle for stepping up to the bed.

Outdoor Audio
The Multi-Flex tailgate is designed to accept a Tailgate Bluetooth Audio System accessory by KICKER®. Installable by Chevrolet of Spring Valley, this is a 100-watt exterior audio system integrated within the tailgate’s inner panel. Lowering the full-width step reveals two 4-inch coaxial speakers and audio controls for volume, play/pause, and skip forward/back. Also revealed is a 3.5mm port and USB port that can be used as an audio source and for device charging. The system can also receive audio content wirelessly via Bluetooth® streaming. It has a compact amplifier separate from the truck audio system, which means the system will operate even when the truck is turned off, and the cabin is locked. The system automatically shuts off when the tailgate is closed, and all the system components are weather-resistant.
As Available as it Is Versatile
The Multi-Flex Tailgate is available on all Silverado 1500 and Silverado HD trim levels and is standard on the Silverado 1500 ZR2 Bison Edition. You will also find it on the Silverado EV.
