Green Car Reports is on its way to determining its Best Car to Buy for 2025, and one of the finalists is the Equinox EV. They found plenty to like about the Chevrolet brand’s latest and most mainstream EV, and Chevrolet of Spring Valley is here to give you the highlights of what they found.

Green Car Reports was particularly impressed by the model’s value and affordability. As such, they focused on the base LT model that became available for the 2025 model year. As they state in their introduction. “…it shows how families on a budget can trade in their gasoline vehicle for a fully electric one that probably offers many of the same features and comfort, for a bottom line that’s no more than the equivalent gasoline model.“

They immediately point to the model’s starting MSRP of $34,995 and that the whole model line qualifies for the full $7,500 tax credit. This would bring the cost of the LT model down to $27,495, which isn’t much more than an entry-level model today. “…an absolute steal,” they state.

For that price, you get 220 horsepower and 243 lb-ft of torque for the front-drive model, along with an 85-kWh battery pack that can take the Equinox an EPA-estimated 319 miles between charges. The AWD model that most Minnesotans will opt for has a starting MSRP of $40,295. The second motor between the rear wheels raises the power to 300 horsepower and 355 lb-ft of torque. The range for this model is an EPA-estimated 307 miles.

Green Car Reports additionally touts the full set of active safety technologies, automatic climate control, six-speaker audio system, Wi-Fi hotspot capability, and the 17.7-inch center touchscreen, arguably huge, but its landscape format doesn’t overwhelm the interior.

They also point out that compared to the more sporty-styled Blazer EV, “…the Equinox EV has easier ingress and egress than its Chevrolet Blazer EV cousin, and what amounts to better backseat space for most situations. Flip down the Equinox EV rear seatbacks, and you can expand the 26.4 cubic feet to 57 cubic feet.”

The Equinox EV’s competition for Green Car Report’s big prize includes the Hyundai Kona Electric, Porsche Macan Electric, Rivian R1S, and Volkswagen ID.Buzz. Arguably, only the Hyundai Kona model is similarly aimed at mainstream families, and the Equinox EV is comparatively more spacious.
